Is milk nature's wonder drink?
- Milk and other dairy products are a major source of nutrients in the basic diet.
- Drinking just 3-4 cups of milk a day can give you most of the RDA (recommended daily allowance) of several key nutrients to maintain a healthy body.
- The most important of these nutrients is calcium, which is needed for growth and repair of bones and teeth. It is a vital mineral to prevent potential onset of osteoporosis.
- Research suggests calcium also plays a key role in preventing obesity, lowering blood pressure, reducing PMS symptoms, protecting against colon cancer and reducing the severity of migraine headaches.
- According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, dairy products provide 72% of the calcium available in the U.S. food supply. Most Americans receive much less calcium in their diets than the RDA.
- Women over the age of 20 years old consume 78% of the RDA, while men only consume 55%.
